Overview
AstroTonight ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
Information We Collect
- Location Data: We collect your approximate location (latitude/longitude) to show you what's visible in your night sky. This is either detected automatically via your IP address or entered manually by you.
- Preferences: Your display settings (dark/red mode), equipment tier, and favorite celestial objects are stored locally.
How We Store Data
All data is stored locally on your device using your browser's localStorage. We do not have servers that store your personal information. Your data never leaves your device except when making API requests for weather and astronomy data.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party APIs to provide our service:
- National Weather Service (NWS) - weather forecasts
- NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center - aurora forecasts
- ipapi.co - approximate location from IP address
- Open Notify - ISS pass predictions
These services may log requests according to their own privacy policies. We do not control how they handle this data.
Affiliate Links
We participate in the Amazon Associates Program. When you click on product links and make purchases, we may earn a commission. This does not affect the price you pay.
Cookies
We do not use cookies for tracking. localStorage is used only for saving your preferences locally on your device.
Children's Privacy
AstroTonight is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
